PE

Physical Development sessions

PE takes place every Tuesday morning. Your child needs a full PE kit in school which consists of black shorts, a white T-shirt and black pumps. This will stay in school and will be sent home at the end of half term to be washed. If your child wears ear-rings please ensure you remove these before they come to school on the day of the PE session. We will be preparing for our Sports Day activities this term.

Homework Projects

We will set mini homework projects linked to our topics. These will allow your child to discuss their learning with you and to complete a project together.

Our topic this term is ‘Big and Small, Short and Tall!

We will be exploring our environment and using our woodland area to investigate plants and minibeasts!

We will find out lots of interesting facts about different plants and minibeasts through growing our own fruit and vegetables. Healthy eating and exercise are an important part of our development and we will be discussing a healthy diet through stories such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar and creating our own healthy picnic.

The children will learn about a range of artists that were influenced by nature such as Van Gogh, Arcimboldo and William Morris. They will create their own pieces of artwork based on these.

Literacy

Reading books will be changed twice a week on a Tuesday and Friday. It is important that you share a book with your child to develop their understanding of a range of texts. Please ensure you write a comment in their reading record book. The children need to be writing simple sentences independently using their phonics skills.

Mathematics

We will be reinforcing number recognition to 20. Carrying out addition, subtraction and division activities in a practical way linked to our topic work. The children will be measuring plant growth and collecting and displaying data in tables and graphs.
